 Bella Donna is the name of the Chapel at Adriatica and it is one of the most asked-about components of the village. Standing alone on an island and separated from the rest of the harbor by canals the chapel’s edifice is both regal and humble, inspired by the simple chapels along the Dalmatian coastline.
People inquire nearly every day about when the chapel will be completed. And while the completion date has yet to be set (it depends upon the completion of the harbor itself), the exterior graces Stonebridge Lake like a swan in still water.
The chapel is roughly 35 feet wide and 68 feet long, clad with stone and topped with clay tiles. Current plans for the interior include white marble from the island of Brac (pronounced brach) which supplied much of the white marble for the grand structures in Washington D.C. The ceiling will be graced with frescoes and the windows with stained glass.
Like many other parts of Adriatica, the chapel also has a bit of history built into it. Just above the entrance is fixed a 300lb stone relief of Christ with his hands outstretched. The carving is from Italy and was salvaged from a church destroyed by bombing during World War II.
Along with the Chapel, the harbor at Adriatica will have restaurant and banquet space for wedding rehearsals and receptions.
